Tracpipe and Earth Tremor Gas Leaks

An OmegaFlex product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Jan 14, 2003

Research shows that Tracpipe can help allay earth tremor gas leak fears.

The recent earth tremors experienced in several areas of Britain have highlighted the need to protect the integrity of the gas supply in the event of such an occurrence.

The technology used in the production of TracPipe was originally developed in Japan for that very reason - to protect property and lives in the event of earthquakes.

CSST has a proven history of installation in North America, where it has now captured more than 30% of the US gas pipe market.

Laboratory research was conducted to compare the ability of both TracPipe and black iron type systems to withstand potential damage or the ability to tolerate the type of damage associated with earthquakes without leaking, minimizing the risk of fire.

Ductility and flexibility are very important properties for minimizing the risk of gas leakage during an earthquake.

The conclusions of the tests clearly demonstrate features of the TracPipe gas piping system which can help to resist motions during an earthquake versus black steel piping systems with malleable iron elbow fittings.

This testing demonstrates that TracPipe is more ductile than conventional steel pipe.

It can tolerate extensive crushing and stretching prior to leakage or failure.

It can withstand a much greater degree of both angular distortion and crushing force than black steel systems.

TracPipe stainless steel semi-rigid gas pipe is Kitemarked to British Standard BS7838 and manufactured under an ISO 9000:2000 Quality Approved system.

Suitable for natural gas, propane or butane, at working pressures to 75mbar, TracPipe dramatically improves installation time and safety.

TracPipe, which can be easily bent by hand and does away with the need for bends, TracPipe is available from Pipeline Center branches througout the UK in seven bore sizes (DN 12-50) on long-length reels or cut lengths.
