An Opus Technologies product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Jun 30, 2003

CEDIA 2003, Brighton, UK, Opus Technologies, the leading designer of multi-room entertainment systems and structured wiring solutions, today announced the launch of the Opus SCU500 Serial Control Unit

The SCU500 allows the Opus 500 series multi-room system to interface with and be controlled by a user's PC; and has been designed in close collaboration with Creston and AMX to work with their advanced third party controllers.

"The SCU500 provides a powerful solution for those who want the flexibility to extend their Opus multi-room home entertainment system into a fully automated smart-house incorporating lighting, security, blinds and much more," said Matt Bramble, technical director of Opus Technologies.

"Opus is designed to be a flexible, open-architecture system which simply integrates with all third party manufacturer equipment whether that be a piece of source equipment like a DVD player or a sophisticated controller such as an AMX or Crestron touch screen system." The SCU500 is even provided with an easy-to-use software interface so that Opus can be controlled from your laptop or PC.

This application provides an intuitive pop-up keypad that looks like an Opus WCU500 Wall Control Unit on your computer screen.

From here you can adjust the functions and setting of Opus in the same way that you would via a physical WCU.

More features and benefits of the SCU500: * Bi-directional feedback means that setting adjustments are fully updated on the controller and on the WCU.

* With multiple USB, RS232 and RS422 ports all standard controller methods are catered for.

* Uniquely the SCU500 can be controlled by up to 3 different controller mechanisms simultaneously.

Control Opus from a lighting system and Crestron panel and a PC all at the same time.

* As a premium member of the Crestron Internet Industry Partnership and AMX's InConcert programme, drivers to connect the SCU500 to controller equipment are already downloadable from the internet, allowing for easy installation.

The Opus SCU500 Serial Control Unit is specifically designed to work with the Opus MCU500 Master Control Unit and has a recommended retail price (RRP) of £650 excluding VAT.
