They used laser-guided theodolite 'total stations' to record fine details onto hand-held pen computers and ensure the building is shown in exact relationship to neighbouring developments.
Their measurements are supported by Ordnance Survey's nationwide network of satellite positioning receivers capable of fixing points on the landscape to centimetre-level accuracy in real time.
"Collecting the data on Wembley Stadium is one of the most daunting but exciting tasks my colleagues and I have ever undertaken," says surveyor Jonathan Boase of Ordnance Survey.

A New Option From Ordnance Survey
National mapping agency announces the launch of a new Internet-based service for large-scale digital mapping products.
Height data definines physical landscape
Ordnance Survey is announcing a major enhancement to its detailed digital height data defining the physical landscape of Britain.
"It really is an incredible structure".
"Its most dominant feature, the arch, is higher than the London Eye - and its existence eliminates the need for pillars".
"This means, of course, that everyone will get a great view at any event or football match".
Once processed, Ordnance Survey's digital data is made available at its most detailed level through the OS MasterMap product family, designed to be used as a fully integrated database.
The level of detail is far greater than people expect to find on a tourist or motoring map, but is absolutely essential for many businesses and public services, which need extremely accurate mapping of the whole country on a day-to-day basis.
They include emergency services keen to establish building access routes and utility companies tracking the routes of pipelines and cables for repair and maintenance.
Across Britain an average of 5,000 updates are made every day to OS MasterMap, from small housing developments to prestigious new buildings like Wembley.
Now that the information has been collected, it will be processed and added to OS MasterMap.
It will then be made available to commercial customers very quickly".
"When Brent Council issued the stadium with its safety certificate, we knew we could all look forward to exciting events and thrilling football matches for years to come," says Jonathan Boase.
"This really was a huge team accomplishment".
"And I'm pleased to have been part of the effort to put this distinctive and unique structure in its rightful place on the map.".
