Solar Gard reduces glare with window film system

A Solar Gard product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Jan 14, 2010

Thomas Cook has been fitted with an eco-friendly window film from Solar Gard to eliminate solar glare and reduce internal temperatures of the building.

The Thomas Cook headquarters, located in Belgium, features 2,000m2 of glass, and no air conditioning so the summer periods bring intense solar glare and temperatures of more than 30C, creating an unbearable working environment.

After exploring options such as shutters, external blinds and air conditioning, Thomas Cook opted to install Solar Gard Silver 35.

The window film ensures heat rejection of up to 61 per cent while maximising the visible light entering through the windows, and blocking up to 62 per cent of solar glare.

The system was specified due to the increase in energy consumption that air conditioning would bring.

Window film offered a green alternative.

Almost 1,000m2 of window film have been installed within two weeks.

Heat from solar gain has been significantly reduced and the office is now a comfortable and pleasurable place to work, with the glare problem having been eliminated.
