Bristol music venue the Colston Hall, now has a new foyer incorporating Oventrop valves for heating control and hydronic balancing of heating and hot water systems.

As well as general valves, Aquastrom T Plus multifunction valves are incorporated into the domestic hot water system to prevent Legionnella risks.

Aquastrom T Plus valves have been installed into the domestic hot water system at Colston Music Hall in Bristol.

Oventrop valves were installed by MJN Colston, Bristol and specified by Arup, the consulting engineers, on the basis of previous experience, competitive cost and ready availability.

Willmott Dixon Construction were the main contractors for the new glass-fronted building which features a spacious 5-storey atrium crossed at upper floor levels by a series of bridges linking the new foyer with the existing main auditorium and other parts of the historic building.

Lifts access all levels.

The heating system is based on two duty/duty gas-fired condensing boilers in a 4th floor plantroom with secondary circuits for DHW.

Indirect calorifiers also receive heat from a solar heating system.

A constant temperature circuit serves strategically located air handling units and a variable temperature circuit is provided for the radiators.

A low temperature variable circuit feeds underfloor heating for the split level atrium ground floor and two cafes.

Oventrop supplied isolation valves, including those for the gas boilers, commissioning sets, differential pressure and double regulating valves for hydronic balancing, check valves and strainers.

The 60 radiators on the upper floors are all fitted with presettable AV6 TRVs with Combi 4 lockshield valves.

Aquastrom T Plus secondary circulation regulation valves were used on DHW returns to simplify commissioning and systems balancing.

The new foyer building now has the grand entrance of a foyer performance space, two new interval bars, administration offices and a 4-room education suite.

There is the performance space, a VIP room, a retail unit and two cafes.

The bridges cross over the upper space and connect into the back of the existing hall to provide step-free access to the auditorium at the front stalls, rear stalls and lower balcony levels.
