The upgrade was part of the landlord's investment program for replacing R22 plant, whilst also improving air conditioning capabilities and running costs for the building's tenants.

WBS selected two energy efficient chillers to replace the footprint of the existing R22 models which were at the end of their useful life and carried out all the mechanical and electrical work involved in removing the old units.

WBS sister company, Weatherite Service and Maintenance, will provide the service contract and three-year extended warranty.

WBS was awarded the contract by the Project Consultant, Energy and Technical Services (ETS).

After evaluating a number of solutions, WBS recommended York chillers from Johnson Controls as they offered the best COP and ESEER values for the client.

ETS was also impressed with the energy saving potential and environmental benefits of the new chillers.

Martin Thomas, Sales Director of WBS, commented: 'Although the price had to be competitive, a guaranteed delivery date was essential as both the existing cooling units were proving to be unreliable and inefficient, which was impacting on the day to day activities of the tenants'.

It was vital that WBS and Johnson Controls guaranteed it could meet the deadline for the completion of the installation program, with commissioning and operational handove'.

Through careful planning and design, replacing the existing air cooled package chillers with the new models required no alterations to the existing enclosure.

Importantly, the new units could also operate from the existing power supply and water circuits, and didn't require any additional acoustic protection, ensuring both cost and time savings.
