Panther Platform Rentals provided powered access help for the installation of a giant sculpture of a spider outside London's Tate Modern Gallery.

Panther, one of the fastest growing providers of powered access in the UK, identified the HR15N as the suitable solution for helping set up this exhibition The machine has a narrow self propelled articulated boom, the upper section providing fantastic accuracy when positioning the platform, and offering superb manoeuvrability which was of obvious importance when dealing with such an important work of art

With 15.6 metres of reach height and 9.6 metres of horizontal outreach, the HR15N easily allowed two operatives to access all parts of the 9 metre high uniquely shaped Maman.

Richard Miller, Joint Director of Panther Platform Rentals commented: "Whilst we have over 2000 machines working on different jobs around the country, this particular job caught my eye".

"We are all thrilled at Panther that we could help with the setting up of such an important exhibition, and I look forward to going and viewing this installation in person within the next few weeks".

Made from bronze, stainless steel and marble, the piece was completed in 1999 and is one of a series of six enormous spiders built in the 1990s.

Whilst bronze casts of Maman are on permanent display in Spain, South Korea, Japan and Canada, this is the first time one of the series of sculptures has gone on outdoor display in the UK.

The Tate Modern exhibition, featuring more than 200 Bourgeois works, opened on October 10 and runs until January 20 next year.
