Panel Systems has supplied Trespa panels, which have been routed to create a Terracotta cladding effect, to a refurbishment project in Croydon.

Architects Carey Jones wanted the Dakota House building to have a Terracotta exterior, but without the cost issues associated with masonry-based wall materials when they are used to create this type of facade.

Trespa-faced panels were specified in a Terracotta shade, and were fixed into aluminium window frames.

As part of the refurbishment, the original facade on Dakota House was stripped back to the concrete frame.

The exterior was replaced with insulated window and Trespa panels, into which Panel Systems had routed horizontal grooves to simulate the Terracotta tiles.

The panels were backed with a core of Styrofoam to meet the thermal performance requirements of this eco-homes development, which has 10 per cent of its energy produced from renewable sources.

Trespa is a solid grade laminate that is durable and low maintenance and offers both UV and colour stability, which means Dakota House will retain its aesthetics for the long term.

Danny Phelan, sales manager at Panel Systems, explained: "We have the capabilities to router any type of panel material to suit specific project requirements".

"As these panels were fabricated in our factory, it also helps to meet offsite requirements, as the insulation is contained within the panel, which means thermal performance is assured".

Panel Systems has more than 35 years' experience in the production of high quality panels for the construction industry.

Panel Systems has the expertise to work with a wide range of facing materials and core materials and can advise on achieving U values and structural load calculations to meet specific performance requirements.
