Passivent energy-efficient approach to ventilation
Quiet living is being achieved in the heart of Manchester, through an energy-efficient approach to ventilation.
The Hub, at 5 Piccadilly Place, is aimed at first time buyers and owner occupiers, and is a key site in the regeneration of the Piccadilly area of central Manchester, the city's major transport hub.
The building is being marketed by developer Argent as 'the still point of the turning world'.
Passivent background ventilation is not only contributing towards achieving that calm within the living spaces; it also plays a role towards the sustainability of the project.
Award-winning architects Glenn Howells Architects have designed the building to be clad in glass and aluminium panels.
Each of the homes will accommodate background ventilation in line with Building Regulation Approved Document F1 by the installation through the cladding of two Passivent Fresh TLF acoustic through wall ventilators and a CE125 exhaust vent.
The Fresh TLF draws fresh air through the wall harnessing natural variations in air movement and temperature.
It requires no electrical connection, functioning purely on air pressure differences.
Via its innovative design it directs the incoming air upwards, avoiding draughts and potential discomfort for the room occupants.
The Fresh TLF features an innovative "iris damper" controller, adjusted through a slider hidden behind the internal fascia, allowing the flow rate to be regulated to precise requirements.
The ventilators at The Hub are modulated to provide up to 47dB acoustic attenuation.
To ensure 'used' air is effectively exhausted and the internal air quality is maintained, 24/7, Passivent CE125 wall vents have also been fitted in the cladding.
Clive Bartlam, project director for Argent Group, commented, "Argent is committed to creating sustainable communities, hence targeting the homes at first-time buyers".
"The Passivent ventilation plays an important role in helping obtain this and ensures that occupants have a peaceful home despite the location in a bustling city centre".
In addition to the Fresh range of through wall ventilators, Passivent supplies a full choice of window trickle ventilators, plus BBA- certified 'whole house' natural (PSV) and mechanical (iMEV) ventilation solutions, with or without acoustic options.
All of these contribute towards efficient ventilation of the home with little or no energy consumption.
Passivent is part of the Building Product Design Group, which specialises in developing innovative yet practical ventilation and roofing products in line with changing market requirements.
