A Procter Fencing Systems product story

Procter Fencing Systems offers services to survey, design, manufacture and install school fencing and gates.

Installation is carried out by the company's teams of installers from its sites in Leeds, South Wales and Brentwood.

The company has also published 'Fencing for Schools - A Specifier's Guide to Perimeter Security Fencing for Schools'.

This is available as a PDF file free of charge on request or it can be downloaded from the Procter Fencing Systems website.

Welded wire mesh, vertical bar (railing) and palisade fencing have different characteristics, as well as providing their own levels of security, depending on the height of the fence and whether any other complementary security features are employed.

Fencing and fence posts can also be supplied in a wide variety of colours.

In terms of the school’s budget for perimeter fencing, the most secure and most aesthetically attractive options may not be the cheapest.

Gates should be sited where they are clearly visible, and most fencing suppliers offer pedestrian and vehicle gates as well as access control via those gates.

Depending on the risk assessment results, it may be appropriate to bolster perimeter security through the use of access control systems, CCTV, buried fencing or fence extensions.

Before specifying or installing perimeter security, a thorough risk assessment must be carried out.

Various templates and checklists are available, such as the one in 'Managing School Facilities - Guide 4, Improving Security in Schools' published by TSO.

For medium or high-risk schools, a professional risk manager should be used.
