Technical details for Terrier Push-Fit range

A Pegler product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Feb 14, 2008

Developed with the needs of New Build market in mind, Terrier Push-Fit has the quality of product and speed of installation required, while still remaining competitive on price.

The new Terrier Push-Fit range of products combines the push-fit technology of Yorkshire Fittings with the years of Pegler know-how that has gone into Terrier.

The existing Terrier range continues to offer a selection of compression TRV's and MRV's with push-fit adaptors, which enable the range to be used with many varieties of pipe, but further to this the best of Terrier technology has now been combined with Tectite technology to deliver an integrated push-fit radiator product that truly offers the best of both worlds and delivers the customer a product with proven technology at its heart.

The new Terrier push-fit range delivers many benefits and advantages to the installer and end user alike over products.

Speed of installation has been a key consideration and push-fit technology means many fitting complications are removed, thus greatly saving time on site in the long run when installing.

The benefit to the end user is the reliability and economy settings, which save all important costs.

The "push" element of jointing the new Terrier push-fit is instantaneous and the simple tool-free jointing action requires no secondary operations in awkward areas and there is much less chance of damaging chrome pipe as a result.

The thermostatic radiator valves (TRV) are bi-directional and approved to EN215, with double 'O' ring seals and they are suitable for installing in the vertical orientation.

They have a push-fit inlet, suitable for jointing to plain or chrome plated copper tube to BS EN 1057 or PB and PEX plastic pipe to BS 7291 Parts 2 and 3.

This ability to use several different types of pipe is a key advantage of Terrier Push-Fit and this is not a feature commonly found on products of this type.

This feature offers a real advantage, because installers know they only need the one product, even if they need to use several different types of pipe.

The valve bodies are manufactured from brass with a polished chrome plate finish.

Matching hand-wheel, lockshield and drain off Lockshield options must be available.

TRV's are suitable for small bore or minibore central heating systems, including combination boilers, working with water pressures of up to 10 bar (non-shock) and a maximum water temperature of 95degC.

The thermostatic head uses a low hysteresis wax sensor, supporting a setting range of 7degC to 28degC, and there is a positive shut off when set in the '0' position and a frost protection setting of 7degC.

The performance of the TRV in terms of flow rate and pressure drop can be seen in the tables provided and additional details are available.

Pressure drop calculations for any system have to take into consideration the type and number of TRV's required.

This is because a pressure drop occurs at each valve and you need to ensure that enough pressure is left for the system to operate correctly.

Installers need to know what the pressure drops through the system will be and consulting the relevant data tables provides the answer.

Terrier push-fit has also been designed to be less complicated to install and products can be prepared and joints completed in a fraction of the time taken previously and all these factors result in significant cost savings.

As an added bonus, a simple demountable tool has also been designed for use with the product, which allows for maximum flexibility in both installation and alignment.

This ability makes Terrier Push-Fit the ideal solution should it prove necessary to re-align the pipe work at a later stage and can save a great deal of time and temper on site.

This new streamlined range comprises 23 products (including a scribe and deburring tool) and includes an integral push-fit mechanism within the TRV with or without separate push-fit fittings.

Straight fittings and elbows will also be sold separately in 10mm and 15 mm options and the range is equally at home with plastic, copper and chrome pipe.

As you would expect, the quality of the Thermostatic Radiator Valve will never be compromised and is still offered in polished chrome and approved to EN215.

The TRV is also available as a compression product along with the standard push-fit variation.

Both the manual and thermostatic valves have a guarantee of 5 years against manufacturing defects, when installed in accordance with our instructions.

Full details of the new range can be gained by contacting your Pegler Yorkshire representative and literature is available that includes specification clauses, dimensions and flow data or why not visit the website.
