Phi Lighting delivers lighting systems for IRC

Phi Lighting has provided lighting options for diverse environments at The Health Protection Agency's Influenza Resource Centre (IRC).

The existing laboratories in the building at South Mimms, Hertfordshire, built some 20 years ago, needed to be expanded.

The new Influenza Resource Centre building houses the IRC on the ground floor and the UK Stem Cell Bank on the first floor.

The brief given to Phi Lighting was to design, develop and supply lighting systems to technically demanding and diverse clinical and experimental environments.

The brief needed to be achieved within the framework of a sustainable design incorporating modern and efficient luminaries and optics from within a single luminaire family solution.

A system was required that would meet the varying technical needs of the client team and also integrate with the numerous ceiling system types that had to be specified.

The products chosen for the labs all came from the IP rated Zeta and Pura ranges (from IP40 through IP54 to IP65) which are suitable for MF, Vinyl and concealed grid ceiling systems.

These products include front and back access with DALI interfaces.

The optical components include Planirex screens and louvre assemblies for different locations and activities.

Some special designs were necessary due to pathogen presence in order to facilitate safe maintenance procedures.

Series 308 luminaires were chosen for the offices in the building.

These Tri-Zonal luminaries are designed to meet the comfort demands for both laptop and PC users by cleverly balancing the direct, indirect and diffuse components and accommodate the attendant differences in their eye-to-screen geometry.

The fittings incorporate Diamond Shaped Optical PMMA with 90 per cent transmission for high efficiency and maximum lamp diffusion to ensure visual comfort and improved acuity.

Both the chosen laboratory lighting and office lighting are amongst the most diverse ranges of their type available in the UK and are suitable for meeting the needs of projects with varied space applications.
