Architects spread their wings at RAF Cottesmore

Leading architectural and engineering practice Pick Everard is building a GBP3.5million wing repair facility and workshop at RAF Cottesmore in Rutland with contractors Laing O'Rourke as part of the "Harrier Jump" project.

The 2,000 square metre building, commissioned by BAE, has been designed by Pick Everard's architects and civil and structural engineers.

The building features large folding panelled access doors to allow wings to be moved easily from the adjacent hangar where the Harrier Jump Jets are housed.

Designs began in January this year and the whole fast-track project is due to be finished by September.

Pick Everard partner Tom Allen said: "We are delighted to be involved with Laing O'Rourke in this exciting project".

"Pick Everard has completed over 750 different commissions for the Ministry of Defence across a spectrum of building, civil engineering and infrastructure projects".

"These have ranged from feasibility studies to aircraft runways and kitchens catering for 500 people, both in the UK and as far afield as The Falklands, Bosnia and Cyprus.".
