Leading architectural and engineering practice Pick Everard has been commissioned to produce a masterplan for West Suffolk College's campus.

A multi-disciplinary Pick Everard team is to create a new Academy for Dramatic Arts as part of a multi-million pound facelift for the college, located in the centre of Bury St Edmunds Theatre consultant Stephen Walton - for many years the manager of the Theatre Royal in Bury - will be on hand to give specialist advice on this complex project

Other improvements to the campus will include new premises for the 50-place Sunshine Nursery for adult students' children and an adjacent woodland area that will be transformed into managed parkland.

Last year the architectural practice, which has a regional office in Bury St Edmunds, was chosen as Property Services Consultants by West Suffolk College.

Project Director Ed Dale said: "We are delighted to have been awarded this new commission which perfectly matches our multi-disciplinary approach".

Pick Everard is currently finalising a detailed brief and establishing costs for these projects, which will be submitted as part of a bid for funding from the East of England Development Agency next spring.

The bid will include proposals for a new access road into the campus.

Other projects included in the masterplan will also be put forward for Learning and Skills Council funding.

Educational projects that Pick Everard has worked on recently have included Derby's largest ever schools building project worth GBP38million and the new Stephenson College in Leicestershire.

Pick Everard is a design partner in the VINCI Consortium, one of the three teams selected to go the next stage of bidding for Leicester's 'Building Schools for The Future' programme.
