Pick Everard is designing building services for GBP1.7m centre in the grounds of Lakeside Community Primary School in Alvaston, near Derby.

Construction has started on site with completion anticipated for the start of the autumn term this year Pick Everard was involved previously in Lakeside, a new 400 pupil school, created under a PFI project with Derby City Council

The centre will provide a creche and other facilities for children who attend the school, and their families, as well as adding two further classrooms to existing buildings.

The school already enjoys very good relationships in the local area and this centre will foster and enhance links between the school and the community it serves.

Designed to be ecologically friendly, the centre has a BREEAM 'very good' rating, which designers are aiming to bring up to 'excellent' by minimising environmental impact in both construction and use.

Councillor Sara Bolton, Derby City Council Cabinet Member for Children and Young People said: "This building continues our approach of putting centres on school sites to provide important services for children and families".

Duncan Green, partner at Pick Everard added:" We're delighted to be working on extending the facilities at Lakeside and building on our successful project history with both Derby City Council with Norwest Holst".
