Architects at Pick Everard are to design a new GBP54 million city centre campus for Wakefield College expected to open in 2012,

This will fulfil the College's aim to become a world-class, two campus college serving learners right across the Wakefield District.

After successfully developing the College's Skill Xchange campus in Glasshoughton, part of one of the largest regeneration projects in Yorkshire, the College authorities have appointed the same Pick Everard design team for a second project - the construction of an innovative, new campus on its Margaret Street site.

The project will be funded through consolidation of its current sites and by selling the College's Thornes Park campus.

"We are delighted to have been awarded this contract to develop Wakefield College," said Andrew Almond, partner at Pick Everard.

"The Glasshoughton campus is progressing very well and we are looking forward to building on our existing relationship with the College to deliver a world-class campus in the heart of Wakefield".

Pick Everard has a strong record in the design and construction of educational buildings in the UK, including award winning Stephenson College and Keel University Medical School.

The firm is currently in the process of designing a number of major new educational facilities including new campuses for Northampton College, Isle of Wight College and New College Stamford.
