Pick Everard protects Scottish coast from erosion

A Pick Everard product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Sep 21, 2009

Pick Everard has designed a protective construction for a Scottish airport exposed to continued erosion from the sea.

Benbecula Airport required assistance to combat the continual loss of coastline.

Pick Everard completed Phase One in 2003, saving a 500-metre stretch of coastline at the end of the runway and protecting the approach lighting.

Continued erosion meant further work was needed.

Phase Two involved the installation of 400 m of wire gabions, filled with 10,500 tonnes of stone, including an overlap with the original work.

That construction work has blended into the coast.
