Pickersgill-Kaye secures flagship police HQ
Pickersgill-Kaye has played key role in helping provide secure cell accommodation at Cleveland Police's new headquarters in Middlesbrough.
The new multi million pound facility, which includes a segregated and secure Prevention of Terrorism Suite, believed to be the most advanced in the country, provides the headquarters for the force's Redcar and Cleveland districts.
In keeping with the objective of creating facilities that set new standards Pickersgill-Kaye's Class 1 cell lock was specified by Cleveland Police after it was suggested by the project's contractor.
Designed to prevent self harm, the lock has anti-ligature features that help in the provision of safer cells, whilst providing excellent levels of security and high resistance to damage and wear and tear.
Chief Superintendent Graham Cummings, head of the Cleveland force's Criminal Justice Unit who oversaw the development, commented: "With cell door locks, there has been very limited choice until recently".
"When the Pickersgill-Kaye lock was recommended we took references from other users, such as the Metropolitan Police, and received a product demonstration from the company".
He continued: "The lock clearly exceeds the criteria provided by the Home Office Police Buildings' Design Guide, and not only does it look the part in terms of its modern design, the way it is constructed and its performance are of high quality".
"It was just the answer we needed to provide maximum safety and security." Another vital element in the choice of Pickersgill-Kaye security solutions is the new, more robust key management regime that streamlines efficiency and heightens security - as all those using the Pickersgill-Kaye system know that they, just like the Cleveland Police Authority, can request an exclusive key code and that there will be no other key like it anywhere else in the UK.
Chief Superintendent Cummings concluded: "There has been widespread interest from throughout the country in this building and the facilities it boasts - which provides a look into the future of policing, not just in Cleveland, but the UK as a whole".
Pickersgill-Kaye's Business Development Manager for Security and Engineering products, John Moore added: "We're delighted and proud to have been a part of this prestigious, flagship development which is really leading the way in terms of the facilities it offers and the advanced level of security".
"The Kaye Class 1 police cell lock more than met the requirements for the new building and we've had very positive feedback to date.".
