Pickerings gives the party a lift at Oceana
Luminar's flagship Oceana nightclub selected Pickerings Lifts to meet its lift requirements.
Since it was founded back in 1988, Luminar plc has grown to become the largest late-night leisure operator in the UK, with more than 250 sites and including such major brands as Chicago Rock Cafe and Jumpin Jaks.
Its multi-award winning Oceana Nightclubs in particular have a capacity in excess of 2,000 and incorporate authentic themed areas, taking the visitor around the world - from Tokyo to New York, Reykjavik to Sydney and beyond.
Luminar's flagship Oceana nightclub, bar and restaurant development in Leeds was opened in November 2005 and the company selected Pickerings Lifts, the UK's leading independent lift manufacturing, installation and maintenance company, to meet its lift requirements.
The development built on the well-established relationship between the two companies, as Pickerings continues to provide comprehensive maintenance and service support across Luminar's complete nightclub operation in the UK.
"We already had a very positive experience of working with Pickerings Lifts," confirms technical and development director, Tony Pinkstone, "and it was the only lift company which could meet our demanding design requirements within very tight time constraints." Close collaboration.
The new five-storey entertainment complex includes two passenger lifts, a platform lift for wheelchair users linking two levels on the third floor and a fast goods lift at the rear of the refurbished building.
"We had to provide bespoke designs for both the passenger and goods lifts to meet the unique requirements of the existing site," says Tony Avis-Smith.
The goods lift, for example, needed to make maximum use of the space within the existing shaft: in the case of the passenger lifts, the designs had take account of especially shallow pit dimensions.
At the same time, Pickerings Lifts had to complete design, manufacture and installation within a shortened timescale, in order to meet a brought-forward launch date.
