Pilkington Building Products UK has supplied a quantity of Pilkington Optimirror and Pilkington Optifloat glass to a new mirror maze at one of Europe's more macabre museums The "Labyrinth of the Lost" at the grisly Hamburg Dungeon is Europe's first ever horror-based maze attraction

The glass was supplied by Pilkington Poole Branch and constructed by Adrian Fisher Mazes Ltd - the world's leading maze manufacturer.

The new addition covers 700 sq ft yet takes visitors an average of twenty minutes to find their way out owing to the manner it disorientates visitors.

The gruesome attraction demonstrates the adaptability of both Pilkington Optimirror and Pilkington Optifloat glass.

Presenting an advance in mirror glass technology Pilkington Optimirror demonstrates high performance in light reflection and superior standard of manufacture and is environmentally friendly with copper and lead-free characteristics.

The versatility of the product enables it to be utilised across a vast array of applications including walls, partitions, doors, displays, ceilings, cupboards, wardrobes and now even mazes.

The maze's echoing passageways are filled with eerie noises and contain living statues in costume to create a dark and sinister mood.

The air of menace has been heightened by the incorporation of Pilkington Optifloat glass which helps to bewilder visitors as they journey through the maze Optifloat is available either in clear or in a choice of colours - green, blue-green, bronze and grey presenting as a practical and stylish alternative to solid materials.

Used in both the exterior and interior of buildings the product can be used to permit the transmission of daylight, thus reducing the cost of artificial lighting, or as in the example of the Hamburg maze used to create a particular mood.

Thicknesses above 6mm can be used for a variety of commercial applications where superior strength, greater spans and enhanced noise suppression are required.

The maze's designers Adrian Fisher Mazes Ltd commented: "The mirrors enable us to play with people's perceptions of space and generate a real sense of trepidation." In relation to the performance of the glass and with the service the company enjoyed, Paul Kirkman, the project manager for AFML remarked, "We hope to be working with Pilkington again on future orders, Pilkington have been very quick and very helpful.".
