Pilkington scoops major industry award

Pilkington, the St Helens-based glass manufacturer walked away with the prestigious Health and Safety Award at G08 Awards, the top glazing industry award ceremony.
Voted for by independent industry experts and presented by comedian Alexander Armstrong the award is given to companies that have made significant progress in the health and safety area, achieving clear positive results.
The gong was one of 12 distributed during the glitzy ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole.
Thorough training, safety courses for key employees, external qualifications and the use of protective equipment throughout the branches all reduced the amount of lost time accidents and significant injuries within Pilkington by 88 per cent in less than 10 years.

David Ash, Pilkington UK Health and Safety Manager, said: "Whilst the safety record of the window industry is very impressive, our employees operate heavy machinery, travel long distances and sometimes work long hours, which can leave them open to risk".
