New green website launched by Places for People

Places for People has launched a new website aimed at sharing best practice and knowledge on environmental sustainability.

The website provides advice on a wide range of sustainable technologies and green practices, and details how Places for People scooped a Gold Award from the Housing Corporation for its approach to environmental sustainability.

The Gold award recognises the housing industry's attempts to make properties environmentally friendly, with judges describing Places for People as an "innovative organisation." It also offers housing groups the opportunity to win a free day's consultancy from an expert in environmental sustainability.

The consultant will advise six winners on how they can make the biggest impact in taking environmental sustainability from the margins to the mainstream.

In the past year Places for People has designed and constructed hundreds of homes that are energy efficient and feature a range of renewable technologies such as solar and geothermal power.

It has launched a range of pilot projects testing renewable technologies in affordable new build and existing developments including solar panels at Sheffield in Norfolk Park; wind turbines at Wolverton; and is responsible for Broughton Atterbury in Milton Keynes - one of the largest green housing developments in the country.

Places for People will host an open day for housing groups on the 7 November in Milton Keynes offering people the opportunity to visit Broughton Atterbury to learn how mainstreaming environmental sustainability can benefit their organisation.

The event takes place at the Holiday Inn from 10am to 4pm.
