A PollardsFryrespan product story

PollardsFyrespan to help create the three elevations of shop frontages required to complete a retail renaissance at one of the most prominent retail properties on London's Oxford Street.

When the decision was taken to remodel one of the most prominent retail properties on London's Oxford Street, the project team called on the expertise and experience of PollardsFyrespan to help create the three elevations of shop frontages required to complete a retail renaissance.

200 Oxford Street was the former home of C and A and has gone through a major refurbishment and conversion programme.

Client Redevco retained the leading architectural practice ORMS to turn the famous department store into smaller retail units with offices and apartments above, while Woolf Limited was the contractor carrying out the work.

Awarded a contract to design, fabricate and install all of the new entrance screens, PollardsFyrespan worked closely with both ORMS and Woolf to ensure the new frontages matched all the practical as well as planning and aesthetic requirements.

The Project Architect for ORMS, Patrick Campbell, recounts: "PollardsFyrespan's name was on the tender list because they have done work for our office before.

The decision to award the firm the contract did not simply come down to price but overall their package looked the best when the tenders came in, and the quality of PollardsFyrespan work is impeccable." Entrance doors were fabricated using PollardsFyrespan very robust yet stylish Ali-Precinct system while all metal sections were finished in traditionally toned bronze.

All of the glazing features multiply laminated glass addressing security concerns as well as ensuring it will remain in place if broken as a safety measure.

The two main retail units created are now occupied by the clothing chain, Urban Outfitters, and footwear specialist, Schuh.

PollardsFyrespan is part of the Anglo-Scandinavian HansenGroup, one of Europe's leading fenestration specialists, with annual sales of £100 million and over 1,000 employees.

HansenGroup's activities extend from structural glazing, curtain walling and windows, fire resisting and steel glazing systems and advanced glass processing to high performance steel doorsets for fire, acoustic, security and cleanroom applications.
