Local nursery on the move

A Portakabin product story

Portakabin, has enabled children at a nursery in Stockport to stay in the familiar surroundings of their existing building, even though it has moved one mile down the road.

Leading modular building supplier, Portakabin, has enabled children at a nursery in Stockport to stay in the familiar surroundings of their existing building, even though it has moved one mile down the road.

As part of its primary school surplus places review, Stockport Council closed North Heaton Primary School at the end of the last academic year.

Pupils attend nearby Broadstone Hall Primary School, which has made it necessary for extensions and adaptations to be made to the existing building.

This includes the relocation of the 26-place Portakabin Lilliput nursery from North Heaton which was purchased by the school several years ago.

The ability to re-site modular buildings, such as Portakabin Lilliput nurseries, is one of their key benefits.

The very nature of the modular building system means that minimal foundation works are required.

Simple pad foundations are laid, which need only the smallest amount of excavation, which in turn means that the buildings can be easily moved from site to site.

Rob Hall, Business Development Manager for Education at Portakabin, said: "Our Lilliput nursery building first came onto the market eight years ago and its relocatability is just one of its many benefits".

"The process of moving North Heaton Nursery ran quickly and smoothly and the 26-place nursery is ready for children to move into at the start of the new term".

All Portakabin Lilliput nurseries meet permanent building standards and are designed to comply with Ofsted National Daycare Regulations, as well as incorporating Child Protection Act guidelines.

To ensure access for all, Portakabin Lilliput nurseries also comply with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA), the Special Educational Needs and Disability Act (SENDA) and Part M of the Building Regulations.
