Innovative acoustic system from Polyflor are specially designed to meet more stringent sound insulation regulations for school buildings.

Corridors, classrooms, locker rooms and toilets in a new extension at Bowmansgreen Primary School, in London Colney, Herts, feature an innovative acoustic system from commercial flooring specialists Polyflor , specially designed to meet more stringent sound insulation regulations for school buildings Specified by property services company Mace, of Hertford, the Polyflor system employs Polytred Acoustifoam - a 2mm closed cell foam backing sheet incorporating glass-polyester reinforcement - which can be installed under any Polyflor heavy duty or safety sheet vinyl floorcovering to achieve a minimum sound insulation of 18dB

At Bowmansgreen Primary School - the latest in a number of schools to choose the system - Dunstable-based flooring contractor Hi-Tec Floors has used this combination extensively, with bright colours from Polyflor's polish-free Polyflor Mystique PUR heavy duty sheet vinyl range in public areas and Polysafe Astral sheet vinyl safety floors in washrooms and toilets.

In addition to the acoustic performance achieved by the combination system, both products provide other significant performance benefits.

Non-directionally patterned Mystique PUR, available in 16 vibrant shades, features a high quality polyurethane reinforcement which, combined with a superior closed surface finish, facilitates a low cost, polish-free maintenance regime for the lifetime of the flooring, achieving savings of up to 48% compared with untreated vinyl flooring.

Polysafe Astral, available in 14 attractive multi-tone colours, incorporates Supratec+, the second generation of Polyflor's unique soil-releasing polymer system, now including polyurethane for reduced dirt pick-up, even easier maintenance and life cycle cost savings of up to 60%.

As well as meeting the performance requirements of EN 649 and EN 13845, the range conforms to HSE guidelines, achieving a sustainable slip resistance value of 36 on the RRL Pendulum wet test (using Four S rubber slider) and surface roughness of Rtm andsup3;20um.

Both Polyflor Mystique PUR and Polysafe Astral, fully tested to fire safety standard EN13501-1, are certified as Class Bfl-S1, achieving the criteria EN ISO 9239-1 and the mandatory requirement of EN ISO 11925-2 pass.

In common with all Polyflor sheet vinyls, both products can be welded at the seams and to coved skirtings to create continuous, impervious floors.

Both have been independently tested and results demonstrate that they inhibit the growth of MRSA.

An effective cleaning regime is, however, the most important defence against infection.
