Ecoplay micro greywater recycling system from Polypipe Sanitary Systems voted Green Product of the Year, just three weeks after having been officially launched onto the UK market.

This unique system, which can reduce typical mains water consumption and drainage by up to 30%, picked up the Award at the inaugural Sustainable Building Services Awards which were organised by the Building Services Journal and Electrical and Mechanical Contractor magazines "This is absolutely tremendous news for everyone involved with Ecoplay," comments Jilly Player-Bishop, New Business Development Director for Polypipe Sanitary Systems

"Obviously we are totally convinced of the benefits that Ecoplay offers but to have them recognised by the industry in this way is marvellous, especially when the product is so new to the market".

Ecoplay is a practical and cost-effective unit that recycles bath and shower water for re-use in toilet flushing.

In addition to conserving water it can create significant cost savings for the end-user and also help architects, developers and specifiers add considerable extra environmental value to their projects.

"Ecoplay can contribute towards gaining planning permission in environmentally sensitive areas and it can also help a home which is currently at level 1or 2 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, be elevated to levels 3, 4, 5 or even 6, " adds Jilly.

The maintenance-free Ecoplay unit can be installed in a standard size void which can be concealed and decorated as normal.

It collects bath and shower water, skims off light materials such as hairs from the surface and allows heavier materials to sink to the bottom.

The remaining 'clean' water is then transferred to a storage tank ready to flush toilets, and with a storage capacity of 100 litres one Ecoplay unit can provide enough water for approximately 20 toilet flushes.

Ecoplay's intelligent system manages the quality of the stored water and if the toilets are not flushed within 24 hours after a period of regular use, Ecoplay will purge the retained recycled water to waste in order to clean the system.

It then imports a minimum of mains water so that toilets can be flushed.

The Ecoplay unit requires little extra installation work and is equally suitable for all domestic projects whether single-storey or duplex, new-build or renovation.

"The Award judges were looking for innovative solutions or products that can help reduce consumption of our resources and eliminate waste".

"Ecoplay is certainly able to make a huge contribution towards both of those aims," concludes Jilly.
