Polypipe's fire protection for drainage systems

A Polypipe Terrain product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Jun 30, 2010

Polypipe Terrain has launched a range of passive fire protection products to enable the best possible fire ratings for drainage stacks in above-ground installations.

The Terrain Firetrap products all comply with BS 476 and enable the specification of Terrain drainage systems that conform to the requirements of Part B building regulations.

The Terrain Firetrap range includes Terrain Firetrap Sleeves and Terrain Firetrap Collars.

Firetrap Sleeves provide a cost effective way of stopping the spread of fire via pipe penetrations in walls or floors.

During a blaze, the sleeve firstly expands to fill the space between the pipe and the penetration, then crushes the plastic drainage pipe until it closes off completely, preventing the passage of fire and smoke to adjacent areas.

Terrain Firetrap Sleeves offer up to four hours fire protection and are suitable for Terrain Fuze stacks as well as above-ground Terrain Acoustic dB12 and PVC soil and waste applications.

Quick and easy to install by sliding onto the pipe during installation, they can also be retrofitted by being spliced open to wrap around the pipe.

Suitable for concrete, masonry and plasterboard partitions, Terrain Firetrap products will maintain both the thermal insulation of the pipe through the penetration and the vapour seal of the existing insulation.

The sleeve also affords a level of noise reduction to the pipe where fitted.

Terrain Firetrap Collars have been specifically designed to re-instate the fire resistance of a wall or floor which has been penetrated by plastic soil and waste piping services.

They offer protection to the pipework both above and below the partition and are designed to be quick and easy to either face-fix or set-in to a wall or ceiling structure.

They are suitable for use on concrete, masonry and plasterboard partitions.

The sleeve can be fitted in sizes to protect from 50mm to 160mm and affords a two to four hour protection, depending on installation method.

Collars are available from 50mm, up to 315mm and afford a two hour fire protection.

Both the Terrain Firetrap Sleeves and Terrain Firetrap Collars have undergone independent testing in typical floor and wall installations.

The results have been used to create the Terrain Firetrap Product Selector; a guide to specifying and installing these products which helps to ensure that the best fire and protection is achieved for every application.
