An impressive new Welsh primary school furnished by Remploy has been officially opened by Welsh Assembly Minister for Education.

Education Minister unveils Remploy's work at Willowtown An impressive new Welsh primary school furnished by Remploy has been officially opened by Welsh Assembly Minister for Education Jane Davidson Set deep in the heart of the Welsh Valleys, Ebbw Vale's new Willowtown Primary School has been built on a site just above the old Victorian-era school that it replaces and it will provide high quality education in state-of-the-art facilities for more than 370 pupils

Remploy Furniture played a fundamental role in the creation of the new school, manufacturing and supplying a whole range of furniture to outfit more than 30 rooms including classrooms, IT rooms, staffroom and a community room, as well as reception areas and the school library.

In addition to supplying and installing the bulk of the new school's furniture, Remploy sales managers Leanne Hirst and Ceri Cooper were heavily involved in planning the classrooms and library, providing crucial advice on layout and finish options for the furniture.

Speaking of his new school, and Remploy's input, head teacher Robert Gardner said: "We now have a wonderful environment conducive to 21st century education".

"The classrooms are light, spacious and well furnished and they set off light, wide corridors".

"We have a lovely library and a beautiful nursery and it is all set within a nice, modern building".

""The new facilities seem to have had a positive effect on the overall behaviour of the children - this term they seem to have been calmer and more focussed on classroom activities, which I hope is a permanent development".

""I'd definitely say that the products and services provided by Remploy have been very good and I would happily recommend them to other schools".

As she officially opened Willowtown Primary, Jane Davidson said: "This modern new school will help to provide a stimulating learning environment and facilities that the whole community can enjoy".

Under Ms Davidson's stewardship the Welsh Assembly Government's education policy contains a commitment to spend GBP150 million a year on school buildings until 2009-10 as part of its efforts to ensure all are "fit for purpose".

As a market leader in the educational furniture sector Remploy is ideally placed to be at the forefront of this educational revolution, its wide range of products, wealth of experience and ability to handle major projects placing the company in pole position for these lucrative future contracts.
