A REHAU product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Jul 3, 2009

Aspen Windows has just completed the installation of the first internally facetted screen in the REHAU Polytec 50 composite curtain walling system in the UK.

The striking three storey screen forms the entrance to the newly built Oak House care home in Slough and internally provides floor to ceiling glazed facades for the foyer, cafe and communal areas.

Aspen, based in Norwich, is a specialist REHAU Polytec 50 fabricator and used its technical and design expertise to meet the brief from main contractors Baxter and King Construction.

The REHAU Polytec 50 screen combines the benefits of slim 50mm external sightlines using aluminium facings, galvanised box steel sections for structural strength and PVC profiles for warm internal facings.

It outperforms aluminium curtain walling in relation to both thermal performance with a Uf-Value of up to 0.88 W/m2K and structural strength because of an E-modulus on the box steel sections which is three times that of aluminium.

It uses a simple stick installation system which facilitates jointing for internally as well as externally facetted screens.

Aspen powder coated the external aluminium sections of the REHAU Polytec 50 in dark grey and then used REHAU's own Acryl II colouring system to coat the PVC-U used for the windows and doors in the rest of the building in the same RAL colour achieving a perfect match.

In total, more than 500 casement and tilt and turn windows fabricated by Aspen Windows in the 70mm REHAU S706 system were installed at Oak House alongside the curtain walling.

The new, highly specified care home, managed by Care UK, features 120 en-suite bedrooms arranged in eight 15-bed units.

Internally, the home features lounges, dining rooms, a cafe, cinema and library and externally, it has extensive landscaped grounds which incorporate mini allotments for the residents and a croquet lawn and bowling green.
