Peolesafe service helps safeguard staff

Peoplesafe, the award winning lone worker service from Rocksure Systems, is providing security for lone workers from Leeds Parent Partnership Service.

Peoplesafe means peace of mind knowing that they are being monitored in potentially risky situations and can discreetly summon help if a threatening incident occurs.

The eight members of the team use the Peoplesafe devices when undertaking home visits or out attending meetings that end later in the day or evenings.

Leeds Parent Partnership Services exists to support and work with families who have children with special or additional education needs and exclusion legislation, policies and procedures to enable parents to make the right choices for their child.

Within Parent Partnership sits the Choice Advice Service, which provides support and guidance for parents whose child is starting secondary school in year.

Prior to contracting with Rocksure Systems, the Leeds Parent Partnership's safety procedures relied on a 'buddy' system for their lone workers.

The member of the team working alone would provide a colleague with details of where they were going and the time expected.

They would then text their 'buddy' to notify them they had arrived and the colleague would text back to say they had received the text.

Members of staff not only felt that this put a onerous level of responsibility onto them but also thought that they were being distracted from their work as they had to keep an eye on the time to ensure that their colleague's text was not overdue.

Following a training meeting at Leeds City Council on Personal Safety at Work and the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act where members of Leeds Parent Partnership heard about the Peoplesafe service, Information Officer, Angela Bernard-Ferguson investigated the lone worker package.

The findings were shared at a team meeting and Leeds Parent Partnership Coordinator, Bridget Mork, gave authorisation for the team to trial the device.

"We looked at a number of devices but decided to trial Peoplesafe as it has an excellent reputation", said Angela Bernard-Ferguson.

"Any procedural changes we asked Rocksure to undertake for our own specific requirements were quickly and easily resolved".

"Peoplesafe is providing our team with peace of mind knowing that they can quickly and discreetly summon help".

Rocksure Systems' Peoplesafe service is designed to encompass every aspect of a company's need to provide a duty of care to its employees when working alone.

The service combines the six-core elements that are essential for a credible and complete lone worker solution, namely the Peoplesafe unit, operator response, tracking, training, configuration with the most appropriate mobile network and ongoing support.

The Peoplesafe device resembles a normal ID holder but is in fact packed with the latest mobile technology.

It enables a lone worker to discreetly raise an alarm if threatened and also allows a third party to listen to what is happening and record events whatever the distance.

The device can also support the pinpointing of a worker's location using GSM/LBS technology.

Users press a 'checking in' button to notify Rocksure's monitoring centre when they know they are entering a potentially hazardous situation.

If they then have cause to press the red alert, operators retrieve the information on their locality, listen in on the line to what is happening and co-ordinate the appropriate emergency support - involving the police if necessary.
