Specialist environmental unit launched

A Revival Company product story

The Revival Company launches specialist environmental unit - non-chemical eradication of insects, moulds, viruses and other bugs.

The Revival Company, the fire and flood restoration specialist, is launching an environmental unit to enable the safe, chemical-free destruction of viruses, moulds, insects and other pests.

The Revival Company are using new thermal disinfectant techniques, which have the advantage of being non selective, thus destroying all insects or viruses in a given area.

Very hot air is injected into buildings and containers to raise the core temperature sufficiently to kill the bugs.

The international standard ISPM 15 states that 30 minutes at 56C will kill most organisms and viruses.

Graham Orriss, Managing Director of The Revival Company, says: "Our research tells us that this will be a very interesting proposition, not only to insurance companies: underwriters can now have proof that a building, ship or container has been pasteurised, it will also be of great use to commercial enterprises and will once again put us at the forefront of industry development".

"For example, containers shipped from overseas are currently chemically treated to kill any undesirable stowaways, such as red back spiders".

"This process typically takes 48 hours or more".

"By using heat, the time is reduced dramatically and no potentially harmful chemicals are used".

"Ultimately, we believe this will save time and money for insurers and their customers." Key applications for thermal disinfection include:.

* Effective and speedy removal of moulds, damps, rots, death watch beetle and wood worm in domestic or commercial premises.

* Effective eradication of bed bugs in hotels, saving them the unnecessary down-time required from traditional pest control measures.

* Poultry Farmers are required to disinfect their sheds on a regular basis to ensure the well being of the flock and rid them of associated parasites.

This impacts positively on egg production.

The process can also be used in containing the spread of diseases such as avian flu or salmonella, heat is a quicker, more effective and more environmentally friendly method of achieving this.

* To ensure pests brought into the UK in containers shipped from overseas are destroyed before unpacking - potentially giving rise to fewer work-related claims from this sector.

By using the satellite technology, the core temperature of the building, room or container can be monitored remotely via the internet, by all parties concerned, to ensure that the temperature is maintained for the required time.

This information also provides proof of treatment.
