Customers can take their vehicles for an MOT in comfort now, after four Reznor heaters were installed in its Woking Road Depot.

Customers calling at Guildford Borough Council's service and maintenance depot, can take their vehicles for an MOT in comfort now, after four Reznor heaters were installed in its Woking Road Depot.

The 200m2 building is divided into three separate work areas.

In one, lawnmowers and plant are maintained and refurbished.

In the second, heavy goods vehicles are inspected and prepared for MOT inspections.

Finally, in the third area, public MOT testing and the inspection and testing of taxis and private hire vehicles are carried out.

The depot was fitted with four Reznor heaters in January 2003.

Free-standing cabinet heaters were installed in the MOT building and the heavy goods area, while suspended gas-fired units were positioned in the lawnmower workshop.

The heaters replaced temporary gas heaters which were based in the lawnmower workshop and heated only half the space, making them both inefficient and expensive to run.

The building is a large space with high ceilings.

To make the most of the heaters, recirculation fans have been fitted in the roof to ensure that all the heat is distributed evenly throughout the building and used in the most effective way possible.

Eight full time employees are based in the warehouse and there are people and vehicles coming and going throughout the day.

It is important to maintain a constant internal temperature of 18 degrees C and ensure that the heat doesn't escape through the doors.

Before the new heaters were installed, the team was keen to get the loading bay doors open and closed as quickly as possible, but the new heaters can maintain a consistent heat regardless of the external temperature.

Derek Trawber, Administration Manager for the Service and Maintenance Depot says, 'We are very happy with our new heaters.

Now we've had them installed, the difference is clear and it's great to have a more comfortable, stable working environment.

All the solutions to the heat loss problems we were experiencing have been very effective in practical terms, allowing us to make full use of the heat provided, which also enables us to save money.'.
