Glasgow will play host to the first depot for Rightway Roofing, which is the first in a series of independent roofing merchants to have agreed to join forces under the new banner.

David Proos is set to return to the roofing industry with a simple message: "I aim to be number one again".

Proos enjoyed great success as joint managing director of family firm Proos Roofing Supplies - which was the largest independent roofing merchant in the UK - before opting to sell the company in March 2002.

He has subsequently spent time away from the industry, but has now set his sights on creating a new empire as he seeks to regain a firm footing in the field of pitched roofing and flat roofing materials.

Glasgow will play host to the first depot for his new project, Rightway Roofing, which is the first in a series of independent roofing merchants to have agreed to join forces under the new banner.

The Lancastrian entrepreneur believes that such a development is exactly what the industry needs at this time, claiming: "I feel that there's very much a need for an independent roofing company in this country as there is currently very little variety or choice for suppliers or manufacturers.

"What we aim to achieve is to create a strong network of outlets across the UK, and though we'll be working together under one umbrella, the individual centres will be given great freedom to operate as they choose, meaning they can offer services in a way that best suits their requirements.

"Where possible, we're looking to resurrect our place at the top of the market place and rekindle our old relationships with manufacturers and suppliers.

My eyes are open to further opportunities to extend our network, and I hope to be announcing more new sites in the near future".

Proos Roofing Supplies was a leading light under the leadership of David and his brother Jack, securing numerous contracts to supply most local authorities in the country and working with a whole host of multi-national housing contractors - demonstrating Proos' eye for success.

The new development will create a number of job opportunities at its head office, with around half a dozen posts being generated at each new outlet.

The London Road site in central Glasgow is expected to be joined soon by sites in Irvine and Newcastle, giving Rightway Roofing a solid base in the north of the UK.

The company will be directed from its Blackburn headquarters, with the Lancashire head office team set to be unveiled shortly.

All the major UK suppliers have already agreed to come on board, giving Rightway Roofing a solid base from which to commence operations.

June Rooney and James O'Hara will remain joint directors of the Glasgow site and all forthcoming expansions in Scotland, and June believes the set-up of the new organisation is primed to reach the top.

She revealed: "We're relishing the prospect of linking up with David Proos and we're looking for that partnership to go from strength to strength.

David's input will be vital to the success of the company, and I know that his knowledge and expertise will allow Rightway Roofing to become a nationwide market leader.

"The by-word for success in this company is 'independence' - something that we can offer after lacking for so long in the roofing industry.

The choices available to consumers have been getting fewer and fewer, but we're about to change that.

I'm sure that in time we'll become the biggest and best independent roofing supplier in the country.".
