Five local schemes have beaten off stiff competition from 13 new Yorkshire buildings to make it onto the shortlist for the RIBA Awards.

Five Yorkshire projects shortlisted for prestigious RIBA Awards Five local schemes have beaten off stiff competition from 13 new Yorkshire buildings to make it onto the shortlist for the RIBA Awards.

The five shortlisted projects are:.

* The First Start Centre, Sheffield - Panter Hudspith Architects, London.

* Classroom of the Future, Mossbrook School Sheffield - Sarah Wigglesworth Architects, London.

* Longley Park Sixth Form College, Sheffield - Ellis Williams Architects, Cheshire.

* The Round Foundry, Leeds - Building Design Partnership, Manchester.

* Private House, Malton - Bramhall Blenkharn Architects, Malton.

The range of commercial, residential and education schemes reflects the diversity of work currently being undertaken in the region.

The judges felt that the quality of all the entries was particularly good.

The five projects will be visited by a jury of three in April.

The jury comprises of Jim Eyre of Wilkinson Eyre, Albert Williamson-Taylor of Adams Kara Taylor and Gordon Carey of Carey Jones Architects.

The winners will be announced at the RIBA Awards Dinner to be held at the London Hilton on the evening of 17 June 2005.

Emma England, Regional Director of RIBA Yorkshire says: "The RIBA Awards recognise the best architecture in the UK and it is indicative of the high quality of new architecture in our region that 5 buildings in Yorkshire and Humber have been shortlisted.".
