The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Yorkshire Region invites entries to the 20th White Rose Awards celebrating the best buildings and public spaces in the region.
Through these annual awards RIBA Yorkshire aims to highlight the excellent work produced by architects and their teams and to demonstrate the importance of good quality architecture and urban design in contemporary society.
RIBA Yorkshire have been celebrating design excellence through The White Rose Awards since 1986 in partnership with Ibstock Brick .
The Public Realm category is supported by Yorkshire Forward and was launched in 2005.
It was created to recognise improvement of communal space in our towns, cities and villages.
In a move to broaden the impact of the awards and unlike all other entries, this category is not exclusive to RIBA members and entries from other individuals or community organisations outside the RIBA are actively encouraged.
A diverse range of schemes can be included in this category.
Examples include a village green, school playground, new civic square, public art right up to an urban master-plan.
Judges Commendations are given to highlight current issues in architecture and the region such as Sustainability, Accessibility and Regeneration.
RIBA Yorkshire will also be awarding prizes for the Yorkshire Client of the Year and Yorkshire Building of the Year.
David Smith, Chairman, RIBA Yorkshire said "These awards help demonstrate that architecture is integral to the economy and regeneration of the region.
Good building design has a positive role to play in the spaces we all inhabit, whether this is at work, at home or in the public realm." Winners will be announced at the annual RIBA Yorkshire Awards ceremony on 16 November 2006.
This year the black tie dinner will be held at Leeds Town Hall.
Entry forms are now available from the RIBA Yorkshire regional office.
The closing date for entries is 18 August 2006.
