Fusion Commercial stair balustrade range
Richard Burbidge is so impressed with its Fusion Commercial stair balustrade range, it specified the system for a staircase within the main reception of its own head office.
Located in Oswestry in Shropshire, the two-storey headquarters of the UK's leading decorative timber specialist were built in the early 1980s.
A defining feature of the building's entrance is a dual flight staircase surrounded by floor-to-ceiling glass windows, that provides shared access for staff and visitors from the ground floor reception to first floor offices and meeting rooms.
To help create a fresh, modern and welcoming new look for this busy communal area, the existing traditionally-styled timber balustrade has been replaced with the innovative Fusion Commercial system, which combines Oak rails and newels with Brushed Nickel balusters and connectors to produce a unique, highly contemporary look.
Dvaid Richards, Specification Product Group Manager for Richard Burbidge, explains: "Fusion Commercial is ideally suited to modern office environments, thanks to its clean, contemporary design which creates a stylish yet professional feel.
Importantly, the system also satisfies the latest safety requirements for public stairs.
"When the company decided to refurbish our main visitor reception, it was a logical move to install the newest addition to our commercial balustrade range, which proved the perfect choice.
First impressions count and Fusion Commercial has brought the staircase right up to date, creating a striking focal point as well as showcasing the unique system to everyone who passes through".
David adds: "Since its launch, Fusion Commercial has already been specified for an impressively diverse range of developments, from residential period property conversions and new-build apartment schemes right through to village community centres and refurbished dental surgeries.
By installing the system in our own premises, we are demonstrating its suitability for yet another communal area as well as our confidence in the product itself".
Available off the shelf, Fusion Commercial is easy to install, as all timber components are supplied pre-cut and pre-varnished.
The metal balusters are also pre-cut and ready to use.
In most instances, there is no need to modify the components, other than cutting the rails and newels to length.
Fusion Commercial is compliant with UK Building Regulations for communal areas and is tested for public stairs, requiring loadings of 0.74kN/m.
The system can be used for a variety of staircase configurations in commercial projects, including straight, split, cut and closed strings.
It is suitable for stair pitches of between 33 and 42 degrees, and handrail heights of 900mm for staircases and 1100mm for landings.
A host of technical support services are available to Fusion Commercial customers, including a technical advice helpline, an online planning service available at www.fusion-commercial.com, and a Fastrack CAD CD.
