Over 2500m2 of Rigidal's Ziplok standing seam profile in a granite ARS finish have been used to stunning effect on Horsham's new landmark YMCA building.

The building forms almost a complete circle and used Rigidal's unique tapering machine to create the circular tapered roof.

Roofing contractor was Cobsen Davies for main contractor Dean and Dyball.

Before the introduction of Rigidal's tapering machine, any tapering of sheets had to be carried out by cutting and welding tapered blanks then roll forming, with the inevitable labour costs which this incurred.

The new machine, believed to be the only one capable of rolling tapers in a single pass from coil, allows the production of tapered sheet at a similar rate to parallel sheet.

The new roll former is also mobile, allowing tapering to be carried out on site if required, which in turn means that, unlike its competitors, the length of tapered sheet is no longer restricted by transport or production capability.

Tapers can be from a minimum width of 220mm at one end to 500mm at the other end on any length of sheet.

In addition, as featured on the YMCA, this unique roll former can produce non-standard widths of Ziplok sheet at any size from 220mm to 500mm, providing a very cost effective way of finishing roofs and also allowing laying of the sheets to take place from both ends of the roof simultaneously, without the need to worry about awkward gaps in the middle.

Rigidal Ziplok is a BBA approved, advanced zip-up standing seam system that offers exceptional weather resistance and durability.

The unique halter design complements the design of the liner (20/100/1000) in a way which leaves almost no possibility of error in setting out the roof and so allows for fast and trouble free laying of the profiles.

Combined with the ability to curve the profiles on site and availability in either aluminium or steel, this gives Rigidal Ziplok a competitive edge in any standing seam application.
