World's biggest print plant showcases resin floor, installed by Carillion Building, Datum Industrial Flooring and Resin Surfaces.

News International?s Broxbourne facility, the world?s largest and most technically advanced print plant in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire, is now open for business The resin floors were installed following effective partnership working from Carillion Building, Datum Industrial Flooring Limited and Resin Surfaces Limited (RSL)

Specialist flooring systems manufacturer, RSL, was contracted to provide all the resin surfaces for the £350m facility.

Despite a world wide shortage of resin at the beginning of the project, RSL achieved the planned delivery dates due to their knowledge of the market and astute purchasing, working with their partners within the supply chain.

In total, over 35,000 square metres of differing synthetic resin systems were delivered on a just-in-time basis, encompassing primers, surface DPMs, coatings, self-smoothing screeds, anti-static screeds and bespoke quartz finishes.

Systems installed on site include Dampshield F, a fast-cure damp proof membrane which was specially formulated for the News International project.

RSL?s hardwearing two-pack epoxy coating, Resucoat HB, was also extensively installed throughout the print plant in industrial areas.

Corridors, washrooms, shower areas and toilets were served by Resuscreed Quartz, a similarly hardwearing system that also provides a decorative finish.

All key programme dates have been achieved by consistent on time product delivery and dedicated high standards of workmanship, flexible project management has included constant monitoring and testing of the installed areas.

Ivy Wroe, RSL managing director, commented: ?It was a privilege to be involved in such a prestigious project.

As a high quality, extensive specification coming at the time of a worldwide raw materials shortage it was always going to be a challenge to deliver.

Fortunately we had the information and close relationship with suppliers to be able to bulk buy in advance and fulfil the order.

She concluded ?The success of this project not only demonstrates how effective resin can be in providing durable and attractive floor surfaces capable of taking the rough and tumble of an industrial environment, but it also shows the value of partnership.

Working closely alongside Datum and Carillion proved to be a pleasure and we look forward to collaborating with them on other projects to come.?.
