RMIG supplies perforated aluminium for balustrades
Perforated aluminium from RMIG is being increasingly specified in balcony balustrade systems and staircases for refurbishment projects.
Architects seek to improve aesthetics while retaining practicality and safety in individual homes, apartment buildings and commercial projects.
Decorative aspects have often been overlooked causing balustrades to appear more like steel fences with few real aesthetic qualities.
Ageing balustrades using translucent plastics have gradually decayed due to scratches and UV exposure, while glass infill panels secured in a basic framework appear dated and are often in a damaged condition.
In Europe particularly, architects are now exploring ways of using perforated aluminium and steel panels from RMIG to refresh the external appearance of buildings and create a more attractive facade.
RMIG has already been involved in a wide range of apartment building projects, where perforation patterns have been specified on aluminium, powder coated steel and stainless steel to create a contemporary exterior as part of an external refurbishment.
In the UK, there has been a similar level of interest in perforated metals as balustrade solutions for internal and external staircases as well as balconies and external walkways.
Paul Quigley, architectural specialist, RMIG in the UK, commented: "A significant amount of our work in architectural building solutions is allied to perforated metal cladding, but there is increasing interest in decorative perforated balustrades for both refurbishment and new build".
"While the colours selected in the UK are not typically as bright or high contrast as those used in France, new architecture, such as the innovative CHIPS building in Manchester, probably heralds a change in future design trends for apartments in both private and social housing sectors".
