Rockfon ceilings complete spa splendour hotel

A Rockfon product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Jul 10, 2007

Luxurious Cliff Hotel in Cardigan, West Wales, has recently undergone major refurbishment, including GBP1.2 million spa extension complete with high performance Rockfon ceilings.

The hydro pool, the new spa's star attraction, is hexagonal and it was crucial to the overall design that the ceiling installed not only looked good, with no visible ceiling grid and excellent light reflection, but also offered superior humidity resistance and sound absorption.

The ceiling above the pool was designed to mirror the hexagonal shape and strategically placed lights in the floor of the pool were designed to reflect off the numerous little star lights in the ceiling.

Commenting on the project Meyrick Belton, from MNMB, said, "Because the ceiling was a feature in the overall design it was important not to have a visible grid system".

"However, because of the numerous ceiling lights, access for maintenance was vital".

"Rockfon was perfect because it performs well, particularly in terms of acoustics and humidity resistance, it looks good and also offers the flexibility necessary for such a complex system".

The dual effect ceiling was created utilising Rockfon Sonar tiles directly above the pool and Alaska tiles in the surrounding area.

The ceilings were complemented with Rockfon RockLink Enhanced Corrosion Resistant (ECR) grid systems.

Rockfon Sonar is a non hygroscopic, dimensionally stable, high-density 100% stone wool tile that combines a superior quality finish with excellent performance in terms of sound absorption, fire safety, humidity resistance (resisting up to 100% relative humidity at 40%) and cleanability.

Rockfon Alaska offers a value for money ceiling tile that meets special demands.

With its 100% stone wool (resin bonded mineral wool) core and carefully processed edge it provides a high performing, good looking ceiling solution.

Importantly for this project it offers 87% diffuse light reflection, is non hygroscopic and resists up to 100% relative humidity at 40C.
