Rockwool was approached by Habitat for Humanity to supply insulation for the roofs and floors in their lightweight timber frame applications for new homes.

The need for shelter is one of the four basic requirements we have as human beings and yet there are still over 12,000 households in Southwark who live in overcrowded conditions, with many families living on low incomes and unable to afford better housing Rockwool was approached by Habitat for Humanity to supply insulation for the roofs and floors in their lightweight timber frame applications for five new homes in Peckham, Southwark

The charity felt that Rockwool would be an ideal partner for the project because of its strong commitment to environmental practices and the fireproof and acoustic qualities of its products.

The charity is installing the insulation in its high energy saving housing design and has used products that support the sustainability of energy efficiency.

Because of the nature of the buildings Habitat for Humanity are using 150mm and 100mm roll format in the roofs and 50mm floor insulation.

"Everyone who works with Southwark Habitat for Humanity is a volunteer and many give up their weekends to work on this project".

"As you can imagine, we look to the private sector to assist with the bricks and mortar to build the houses and have a number of environmentally friendly companies who donate products to assist us in our work".

"We were delighted when Rockwool made this donation", comments Alan Wellington, Southwark Habitat for Humanity".

"Our main concern is that the houses we build last a long time, are cost effective and provide the owners with a home that is energy efficient".

"Rockwool insulation is a perfect product in this instance as it fulfils our energy efficiency, fire safety and acoustic requirements".
