Rockwool supplies acoustic solution for BBC
Rockwool Insulation has secured a major contract win to provide roofing insulation for the new BBC Scotland HQ at Pacific Quay in Glasgow.
Rockwool Insulation has secured a major contract win to provide roofing insulation for the new 34,000 sq m headquarters of BBC Scotland at Pacific Quay in Glasgow.
The BBC set rigorous performance criteria, due to the box-in-box isolated acoustic studio construction.
With specific emphasis on the need for high acoustic protection, Keppie Design , the implementation architects, specified a double layer of 80mm Rockwool DuoRock, which provides exceptional noise reduction for the flat roof and will ensure that the Studios and Atrium remain as sensitive internal areas.
Roofing Business Manager Chris Hall at Rockwool Insulation commented on the superior acoustic qualities that Rockwool DuoRock possesses; "Effective sound insulation is an essential requirement to such a commercial entity and the exclusion of outside or overhead noise is necessary for the efficiency of operations".
"DuoRock roofing board has been proven to be the ideal material for all applications where noise attenuation or absorption is required, giving optimum insulation at economic cost to the contractor".
"It will also withstand temperatures in excess of 1000C giving thermal and firesafe benefits".
"These criteria made it an obvious choice for Keppie design when making their insulation decision for the flat roof of the new development".
Les Adams, Chairman of Keppie Design Technical Group, confirmed that the acoustic qualities of the building had to be placed at the forefront of the design, "The project began approximately four months ago and the BBC had strictly specified acoustic protection at the top of their agenda including the extensive flat roof on the building".
"A 3760 m2 double specification of Rockwool DuoRock for the roof was decided upon, comprising a major part of the structural involvement for Rockwool on the new Broadcast HQ, which is set for completion during 2006 with BBC Scotland staff due to move in the Summer 2007 following a year long technical fit out.".
