Redesign of one of the UK's foremost sources of roofing and cladding information has made it even more accessible to specifiers and contractors.

Redesign of one of the UK's foremost sources of roofing and cladding information has made it even more accessible to specifiers and contractors.

Removing the need for pre-registration on the www.roofconsult.co.uk website, which celebrates its fourth anniversary in August, has led to a six-fold increase in visitors to almost 9,000 in the first month of its new look alone.

The site is a collaboration between four independent consultants who specialise in flat roofing, sheeting and cladding (David Roy), slating and tiling (Chris Thomas), training and human resources (Peter Stanyard), and materials and standards (David George).

Designed to help those outside as well as inside the industry, www.roofconsult.co.uk provides information on regulations and standards, training colleges and courses, industry issues and calculation methods.

In addition, it provides user-friendly tables to determine factors such as wind loads and fixing and drainage requirements.

Visitors can also opt to receive regular emails informing them of additions to the site and industry news.

Celebrating its second anniversary next month (June) is sister site www.roofinfo.co.uk that acts as a directory for the roofing and cladding industry and now attracts 6,000 visitors a month, clocking up more than 65,000 page hits in the period February to April alone.

The site features more than 600 companies - material manufacturers and suppliers such as Eternit Building Materials, roofing contractors, distributors and merchants, trade associations, consultants and service suppliers.

A dedicated facility allows visitors to search for companies or products.

David Roy, who founded both and is a former member of British Standard committees, said: "The aim of the redesign of the Roofconsult website was to make it more user-friendly and it has certainly had that effect".

"Both sites have obviously become an invaluable resource for people inside and outside the industry.".
