Bosch launches on-site radio with CD player

A Bosch Power Tools product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Oct 6, 2005

Bosch Power Tools has introduced a new CD version of its job-site radio - the Powerbox.

One tool that all tradesmen will agree they can't do without is their trusty radio.

That's why Bosch Power Tools has introduced a new CD version of its job-site radio - the Powerbox.

On building sites and workshops across the country, regardless of size or shape, you are guaranteed two things: a mug of tea to kick-start the day and a radio playing.

But when Bosch did some research into what kind of radios were being used on-site, it found that many tradesmen used basic, inexpensive or old radios for fear of them getting damaged.

This led Bosch to introduce the Powerbox earlier this year - a robust, professional job-site radio.

The CD Powerbox includes all the features of the previous version such as a compact all-in-one AM/FM stereo radio, battery charger and outlet socket; but with the innovative development of a MP3 readable CD drive.

This allows users to read MP3 files from a pre-recorded CD; or if that sounds too high-tech then the standard functions of CD, radio and auxiliary-connected MP3 player are also included.

The Powerbox is robust enough to withstand the knocks, spills, dust and scratches that go with working on-site.

Located at each edge of the box is a spring-mounted protective roll bar, meaning the Powerbox can withstand a two-metre fall without any problems.

From the waterproofed, rubbed-encased antenna to the steel grid speaker protectors, every feature is designed with the construction site in mind.

The versatility of the Powerbox is also a bonus for the tradesman.

It charges, and can be powered by, all 12-24V L and O-pack Bosch batteries or mains, and when running on a 24v battery the radio can play continuously for up to eight hours.

Users can also plug in other Bosch corded tools and increase their working radius with minimum fuss.

The charging area is located behind a water-and dust-tight bay door and current charging status can be checked at any time on the LCD display on the front of the box.

The Powerbox has large buttons specially designed for the workplace, 20 preset channels on the AM/FM stereo radio are tuned to optimum precision with a flexible antenna and it also has an auxiliary input allowing a CD or MP3 player to be connected.

Other features include a 12v outlet suitable for charging a mobile phone, two speakers with separate tweeters, a built-in equalizer, switchable bass amplifier and an LCD display showing time, radio station and battery charge indicator.

Available from GBP169.00 ex VAT from October, the Powerbox CD is the latest innovation from Bosch that has been designed specifically for the professional tradesman.
