The SDS-plus chisels, which come in either pointed or flat versions, are ideal for professional tradesmen as service life is extended by 30 per cent and they have a 15 per cent higher material removal rate.
The Bosch innovative manufacturing process developed for the SDS-plus range allows the hardness of the steel to vary along the length of the chisel.
The chisel is hardest in the useable working area making it very robust.
However it is softer between the working area and the shank, which helps make it particularly break resistant.
It is this unique manufacturing process that extends the service life so dramatically.
In addition to this, the very acute angle on the pointed chisel ensures that penetration into the working material is swift.
The flat chisel is designed with three cutting edges and two break-out teeth that distribute the impact force in different directions, causing the material to break faster.
Such features make material removal easier and thus increase work speed by 15 per cent.
Continuing this revolution in chiselling technology are the SDS-max spade and tile chisels, which have twice the service life of other products on the market.
By simply doubling the cutting length of the chisels, Bosch has been able to extend the working life.
Also, the flat design of the blade means that the chisels are self-sharpening; this in turn has increased the material removal rate significantly.
The SDS-max tile chisel is designed with ease of use in mind.
Its thin blade allows the user to get in between tiles effectively.
The flat shape helps to remove tiles with less breakage, and the angle of the blade further improves the handling.
Overall, the SDS-max spade chisel is 50mm shorter than its predecessor, a great benefit for those tradesmen who work in tight spaces, and its bracing ribs provide stability, a particular advantage when breaking down masonry.
