Course Overview.

All too often the bond between rubber and substrate in a component fails during service.

In order to achieve the best possible bonds between rubber and various substrates and to give the product long service life, no single method can be used in all situations.

The rubber type and compound, substrate and preparation, processing and application method, part design and service environment all affect the bond strength.

This course is designed to provide an understanding of the principles and requirements for satisfactorily bonding rubber to materials such as; metals, plastics, textiles, and other elastomers.

Who will benefit?.

* Those involved in product design, materials specification, engineering, quality and technical support.

* Processors and manufacturers of finished and semi-finished rubber bonded products/components.

Contents:.

* Introduction to principles of successful rubber bonding.

* Preparation and pre-treatment of substrates; metals, plastics, textiles, rubber.

* Bonding methods for unvulcanized and vulcanized rubber, including bonding agent/adhesive and solvent free bonding systems, and the effect of compounding ingredients and processing conditions.

* Bonding of silicone rubber and thermoplastic elastomers.

* Bond design to achieve products with long service life.
