Trane launches water-cooled chiller system

A Trane product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Nov 3, 2009

The third generation Series R RTWD water-cooled chiller launched by Trane, can be integrated in HVAC systems to maximise energy efficiency.

The RTWD delivers Energy Efficiency, meeting Building Owners' Financial and Regulatory Requirements, and is suiatble for industrial and commercial applications, The RTWD is a 200-800kW helical rotary screw water-cooled chiller and is Eurovent certified Class A.

It includes a falling film evaporator that can achieve efficiencies of up to 5.6 Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER).

This minimises the expense of operating a chilled water system which can amount to over 90 percent of the total lifetime cost of a heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) system.

A power meter function is integrated providing instant indicators of how much power the compressor is consuming.

The direct drive compressor uses fewer moving parts than any gear driven device, resulting in a reliability rate of 99 percent in the first year of operation.

The RTWD incorporates a double circuit that serves as a back-up system to ensure a continuous supply of chilled water.

Pierre Cazal, vice president, Trane said: "The RTWD can operate with a dry cooler and in heat pump or heat recovery applications.

This means reduced energy consumption and better overall building efficiency".

The RTWD offers tight temperature control in commercial or industrial environments, and is designed to operate in applications that require high condensing temperatures.

The RTWD can be part of a multiple chiller system using Trane's Chiller Plant Control or can be integrated in a HVAC system with a building management system such as Trane's Tracer Summit.

The RTWD has precise temperature control of +/-0.3 C, as well as adaptive algorithms and preventative unit safeties to keep the system running in all conditions.

It has water and electrical connection options and a small footprint that allows it to fit through a single width door.

The RTWD is shipped from the Trane plant in France throughout Europe, Middle East, India and Africa.
