Ruberoid Building Products is celebrating its Centenary Year by providing free roofing and waterproofing materials to community halls across the UK.

Ruberoid Building Products is celebrating its Centenary Year by providing free roofing and waterproofing materials to community halls across the UK which are in need of essential repair and renovation.

The 'Fix That Hut' campaign will seek out village halls, scout huts and other buildings which are at the heart of local communities and the company will provide materials free-of-charge to suitable projects.

The scheme aims to help one community building per month and was inspired when the company pledged materials and support for the renovation of Captain Scott's hut in the Antarctic, for which Ruberoid material was originally used in 1911.

Ruberoid Building Products is embarking on the campaign in partnership with Action for Communities in Rural England (ACRE), which is helping to identify potential projects that have gained the necessary funding for renovation work to be carried out.

One of the first buildings to benefit from the scheme is Swallow Village Hall in Lincolnshire, which since 1969 has been central to the local rural community and for which Ruberoid has donated 300 square metres of Rubershield-Pro breathable underslating to help with the repair of the building's slated roof.

Permatorch and other flat roofing materials were also supplied through the local Jacksons Builders Merchant in Grimsby.

Speaking about the Fix That Hut campaign, Jane Campion, Ruberoid Marketing Manager, said: "We are delighted to be able to help local communities as part of our Centenary celebrations.

Ruberoid materials have been used to protect countless community buildings for the last 100 years and will continue to do so for the next 100 years.

"Ruberoid Building Products welcomes suggestions from building contractors who might be about to embark on renovation work of suitable community buildings themselves.".
