Redland extends imitation handmade tile range

A Redland product story

Redland has extended its range of Heathland plain tiles with two additional colour options.

Heathland concrete tiles were launched as an imitation of the handmade clay tiles that are particularly popular in the South of the country.

The new colours - Elizabethan and Wealden Red - add to the existing Ember, Autumn and Manor House Mix colours.

Heathland products are through-coloured and use the same sands for the surface finish that are used on clay tiles.

The manufacturing process faithfully reproduces the aesthetic and irregularities in the size and surface texture that are expected with a hand-made product.

The resulting tiles are virtually indistinguishable from the hand-made equivalents but with a difference in price; Heathland is available at 50 per cent of the cost.

Redland is also paying attention to global issues in the market place and has researched the environmental arguments relating to its products.

Research carried out by independent consultants Arup shows that concrete tiles contain less than half the embodied energy of clay tiles; 91-146Mj/m2 as opposed to 240-478MJ/m2.

This is primarily due to the high temperatures required to fire clay products.
