Recticel specified for pioneering school project
A GBP4 million state-of-the-art science block at Clevedon Community School will use Recticel's flagship Eurothane Silver insulation roofing board.
The development, managed by North Somerset Council and delivered by Kier Western - boasting 10 laboratories, an ICT suite and three preparation areas - has benefited from the PIR flat roofing board, which is manufactured with a foil laminate gas tight facing.
It is made using the unique Recticel calibration technology and is the outstanding product of its class.
Eurothane Silver is suitable for use under all types of single ply membranes and can be fixed to most metal decks with just six fixings as opposed to the usual 11.
The unique manufacturing process makes for a very stable, strong, and flat board, with a minimum compressive strength (at yield) of 200 kPa and a 280kPa typical performance, making it one of the strongest boards on the market.
This contributes to an extremely strong and aesthetically pleasing roof finish under modern thin single ply membranes.
Tony Burgoyne of contractors Single Ply Services said: "From a service point of view, the delivery that Recticel offered was very efficient.
When the main contractor required us to accelerate things, Recticel was able to meet our needs with shorter than expected notice.
We found there was more of a personal touch than with some of their bigger competitors.
Recticel was also very good at offering solutions to some specific problems we presented.
I would say that their product offers one of the best compressing strengths in the industry.
In addition, from a commercial point of view, it was very cost-effective.
We are pleased with how the new science block has fitted together.
The finished building is very striking".
With an FM 4450 approval of Class 1, Eurothane Silver stands comparison with mineral wool products in this full scale fire test.
A further benefit of Eurothane Silver is that it can be manufactured in the higher thickness range as a single board.
As insulation standards increase, this will remove the need for double layering, a technique favoured by similar competing products, but which is costly for the contractor.
Recticel has mastered the art of not only making thicker products, but also of being able to endow those increased thicknesses with the stability, strength and flatness found in thinner products.
Boards with rebated and tongue and groove details are available to reduce cold bridging and improve air tightness, increasingly important as insulation standards rise.
The product performance claims are enhanced and confirmed by voluntary Keymarking.
This is done by an independent third party certification body to provide a guarantee that product properties are accurate and consistent.
